About Me

Data Science Internship

During my junior and senior years at Doane University, I had the privilege of working as an intern at CATCH Intelligence, a Data Science consulting firm based in Omaha, Nebraska. This experience allowed me to deepen my understanding of applied statistics and programming, and it was where I first began using Python and R in a professional setting.

I spent most of my time developing proficiency in Python and R while building predictive models, tailored dashboards, and client-facing presentations. After working with this team over the summer, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in data science. What I enjoyed most about my time at CATCH Intelligence was the opportunity to develop valuable solutions for clients.

Bachelors of Science - Mathematics & Data Analytics

I graduated from Doane University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Data Analytics and a minor in Software Development. While at Doane, I completed coursework in mathematics and programming, including Linear Algebra, Calculus I–III, Probability, Data Structures and Algorithms, Software Engineering, Multivariate Statistics, Foundations of Mathematics, and Abstract Algebra. I was also enrolled in the Hansen Leadership Program, a member and team captain of the cross country and track team and served as secretary for the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society.

One of my favorite memories at Doane was being awarded the Jim Johnson Mathematics Award, an annual honor presented to a mathematics student who exhibits tenacity, a love of mathematics, and helpfulness toward others. My studies strengthened my analytical thinking, collaboration skills, and ability to solve complex problems under pressure. I finished my degree with a capstone project that involved conducting an exploratory data analysis using data from the Omaha Police Department.

Data Scientist at HDR

After graduating from Doane University, I joined HDR to contribute to enterprise data and AI initiatives. In my current role as a Data Scientist, I partner across the organization with internal and client-facing teams.

When I first started this role, I worked on an exciting time series and classification project that had been requested by the leadership team for several years. I developed a time-series forecasting model and a classification model that improved sales projections and predicted the likelihood of winning prospective projects. Both models were deployed to production and are now used by finance teams for revenue forecasting and opportunity evaluation.

This past summer, I released a company-wide marketing tool that leverages our enterprise data platform and large language models. The tool generates employee biographies by combining structured personnel data with advanced prompt engineering techniques, which the marketing staff use to add biographies to client proposals. The launch was very successful, with more than 400 users and over 5,000 uses within the first six months.

Master of Science - Data Science

I graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a master’s degree in data science. The program emphasizes the applied use of artificial intelligence and machine learning across industries such as business, finance, engineering, and healthcare.

One of the most impactful courses I took was Research in Management Information Systems. Prior to this course, a lot of my research had clean data that was already properly surveyed and collected before my analysis. This class provided an in-depth understanding of what it takes to conduct high-quality and statistically based research. I conducted a study examining the factors that influence an individual’s trust in artificial intelligence. This required careful attention to survey design and sampling to produce valid results. The research course, along with my capstone and advanced coursework, prepared and inspired me to pursue doctoral-level research.
